About Joanne R. Lax, J.D.
Joanne
Lax is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law
School and is Dykema’s primary adoption attorney. She has been a
practicing attorney since 1978, and began doing adoption legal work in
1996 when attorney-assisted private adoptions became legal in
Michigan. Since then, Joanne has handled all kinds of adoptions – within
Michigan; between two states; between the U.S. and the Netherlands;
single parent; step-parent; interfamily; adult; and guardian.
Joanne captures the essence of our adoption practice when she says, “It
is hard to imagine a more rewarding legal assignment than to help a
birth parent or a prospective adoptive parent with an adoption. The
challenge and the great joy of adoption work is to help all the adoption
